Nepal Red Cross Society observes 55th Blood Transfusion Day, urges young people to donate blood

 

Kathmandu, June 16, 2021: Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS) collected 236,799 units of blood from 72 different districts and donated it among 327,321 patients in the last fiscal year 2020/21. NRCS informed about this amidst a program organized in Kathmandu today to celebrate the 55st anniversary of Blood Transfusion Day in Nepal.

In the program, Chairman of NRCS, Sanjiv Thapa said, “It’s a challenging job to serve people, convincing them about the importance of blood”. He added, “For the continuity easy availability of this service, Nepal Red Cross Society will be cooperating with all blood donor organizations, with institutional commitment.”

Thanking NRCS for continuous service since 55 long years, Director of Public Health Laboratory, Government of Nepal, Dr. Rajkumar Mahato said that number of donors at present stands at 15 percent only. He pointed out the necessity to take an initiation towards increasing this number.
